Cyber Essentials & Plus

Cyber Essentials is a scheme created by the UK government's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to provide guidance on mitigating the most common cyber threats. It is available as a certification at two levels: Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus.

Astrix have been a Certification Body (CB) via the IASME Consortium Accreditation Body (AB) since 2016 and, with the great news that IASME have won the contract to be the sole Cyber Essentials Partner from the 1st of April 2020, our clients can be confident that:

  1. Their certifications and renewals will be disruption-free and consistent.

  2. We are very familiar and experienced with the standards.

  3. We will continue to work closely with IASME and other partners to develop the schemes.

Any certificates that were issued prior to April 2020 will expire at the end of June 2021.

Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials is a good entry-level certification that provides valuable advice regarding the applicant’s cybersecurity.

The certification process involves the applicant completing a self-assessment questionnaire of around 60 questions (these can be previewed here), us assessing the answers, and, if required, us recommending solutions.

We use a platform that has been highly successful in streamlining the Cyber Essentials certification process and our prices come in the following options:

  1. £499* upfront or £49* per month. This option is more suitable for applicants whose circumstances are more usual and straight-forward.

  2. £799* upfront. This option is more suitable for applicants whose circumstances are more complex and who require closer guidance.

The Cyber Essentials certification costs £300*, extra costs detailed above are for additional software and consultancy to achieve certification.

Once an organisation achieves Cyber Essentials and certain criteria, IASME provide Cyber Liability Insurance of up to £25,000.

Cyber Essentials Plus

Once Cyber Essentials has been achieved, Cyber Essentials Plus is a great next step certification that provides valuable insight into the applicant’s cybersecurity and ensures that any weaknesses are resolved.

The certification process involves us performing external / off-site and internal / on-site assessments using vulnerability scans and malware protection tests (the testing methodology can be previewed here) and, if required, us recommending solutions.

We now can perform all the assessements required for Cyber Essentials Plus certification remotely, so not being able to visit a clients office or if many of the staff are working from home, is no longer a problem.

As the certification process varies depending on the applicant’s circumstances, our prices start from £999*.
